My birthday is in November. It’s not quite as exciting as when I was a child — maybe that’s because I believe any day is a good day for a party — but I’m looking forward to this November very much. The brilliant blues singer, songwriter and guitarist Robert Cray is bringing his band to the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

Recognized as a leader in the world of blues, the Blues Foundation in Memphis, Tenn. announced Cray as one of its 2011 inductees for the Blues Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place in May.

Cray is also performing this year at such venues as the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Carnegie Hall, joining James Taylor for his ROOTS Concert, a tribute to James’ musical influences.

The Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium is at 255 So. Auburn St., Grass Valley.

Early bird discount for members only tickets will be on sale at noon Saturday, April 23 for $35. General public tickets go on sale June 1 at $45 for members and non members.

For ticket or member information, contact The Center for the Arts at (530) 274-8384; 314 W. Main St, Grass Valley. Box office hours are noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.
