As reported in his interview in the current issue of The Blues, Robert Cray is planning to release his third live album, he’s revealed.

It follows last year’s studio outing, In My Soul, while his previous two non-studio titles were 2006’s Live From Across The Pond and 2010’s Authorized Bootleg, recorded in 1987.

Cray tells the Courant: “I’ve always loved playing live – it’s just a nice way to show off the band. You’re baring your soul. You have no place to hide. We’re a different band in front of a crowd.”

The upcoming album will be a selection from four shows he recently played with bassist Richard Cousins, keyboardist Dover Weinberg and drummer Les Falconer.

Cray says: “There’s no point in replicating what you did in the studio. I learned that a long time ago. The challenge is to nail it without playing the same solo or going with a different tempo.”
