boygeniusthe record “Instant Classic;
The Debut Album From Boygenius Is Even Better
Than Everyone Had Hoped”
-Rolling Stone
Formed by Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus — three singer/songwriters each already deep into successful solo careers — indie group boygenius showcased Dacus’ wit, Baker’s emotionally active style, and Bridgers’ darkly confessional lyricism on their self-titled 2018 EP. Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus became friends as their paths overlapped during their respective and similarly paced rises in fame. All approaching their craft from different angles, Dacus and Baker both signed to Matador Records and Bridgers to Dead Oceans around the same time. They would see each other by chance on the road, growing closer through the unique shared experience of being young indie musicians in the process of breaking through to larger audiences. A plan was eventually hatched to form a collaborative group, basing the idea around a three-way co-headlining tour that would take place in November of 2018. The release of “$20,” “Emily I’m Sorry,” and “True Blue” marks the first new music from the band since 2020. Their long-awaited album the record released March 31. It was recorded at Shangri-la Studios in Malibu, California. boygenius will perform at this year’s Coachella Music Festival on Saturday, April 15th and Saturday, April 22nd. They are also touring this summer on Re.set post Coachella and touring in Europe.
