UNCLE WAFFLES

South Africa based DJ Lungelihle Zwane (aka Uncle Waffles) became an early figurehead of the Amapiano genre, which mixes elements of deep house, jazz, vocals, and percussion. With co-signs from artists such as Drake, Beyoncé, Ciara, Ayra Starr, and Kehlani, Uncle Waffles is the next global Amapiano artist to break. Honing her skills in her home of Eswatini, Swaziland, there were more opportunities for shows in South Africa, so she moved there permanently. Her status within the Amapiano scene skyrocketed after a clip of her performing went viral. Her debut EP, Red Dragon, featuring the hit song “Tanzania”, arrived in 2022. Uncle Waffles kicked off 2023 with numerous festival performances and world tours, including Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, Afronation, Bumbershoot, and Roots Picnic, as well as the release of the critically-acclaimed EP, ASYLUM.
