(New York, New York, March 17, 2014) Acclaimed singer/songwriter Laura Reed will be making her first appearance ever at the venerable South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX, on March 20th, performing a special acoustic show featuring multi-talented, Grammy winning producer Shannon Sanders. Her much anticipated South By Southwest debut kicks off at the noted Austin club The Holy Mountain Backyard at 9:00 PM on March 20th.
Sanders produced Reed’s latest album The Awakening, available now digitally and on vinyl. Reed co-wrote all the songs on the album, including flavorful offerings like the empowering “Struggle,” or the upbeat “Wake Up,” which has been featured on VH1’s hit show ‘Hollywood Exes’ and the Alicia Keys indie film endeavor ‘The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete.’ The album also features the sultry, blues-infused “Naturally,” with Reed’s vocal radiating neo-beat cool on every slithering verse. The South African born (Nashville and NC based) artist has been hailed as “a sassy and seductive R&B /soul singer with a killer voice…she has begun to establish herself with her thought provoking lyricism and inspirational energy, which is apparent on her solo debut album, The Awakening.” Her much anticipated South By Southwest debut kicks off at the noted Austin club The Holy Mountain Backyard at 9:00 PM on March 20th.
The stripped down show will feature Laura on vocals, guitar, and harmonica, and Sanders, who has also served as Reed’s live music director, on keyboards and vocals, among other instrumentation. Reed has been in the midst of a slew of acclaimed live shows showcasing her riveting solo debut album that Blurt Magazine noted is “…awash in luscious textures and ablaze with emotional passion…fans of Amy Winehouse and Adele will no doubt embrace her…”

Viewed as a reinvigorating turn for the artist, she moved to Nashville to record the album at the suggestion of friend and Grammy award winning producer Paul Worley (Lady Antebellum, The Band Perry, Dixie Chicks). Worley suggested that Sanders produce the album (a 2X Grammy award winner who has worked with John Legend, India.Arie, Jonny Lang, Robert Randolph, among others). The charismatic Reed tabled her funk/reggae-informed roots (via her previous band Deep Pocket) and created an R&B-tinged vocal tour de force that embroiders the raw, seductive power of her voice with a soulfully-framed new signature sound.
Her savvy musical chops and years of fronting the south eastern based band Laura Reed And Deep Pocket also served her in crafting the definitive album of her career.
She has been joined by some stellar singers and musicians on multiple past projects, including George Clinton, Killer Mike, Karl Denson, The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown and Jewel. She’s also shared stages with a star-studded list of artists including India.Arie, Mali Music, Miguel, Daley, Valerie June and Anthony Hamilton, among others.
Drawing comparisons to seminal female vocalists such as Lauryn Hill, India.Arie, and Amy Winehouse, Laura was recently awarded the NIMA AWARD for “BEST R&B SOLO ARTIST OF 2014 and an endorsement from Lee Oskar Harmonicas.
