Hip hop pioneer set to release graphic novel in October

Run-D.M.C. have long been considered superheroes of hip hop, but now Darryl “DMC” McDaniels is taking a lifelong obsession with comics and turning it into Darryl Makes Comic, a graphic novel imprint set to publish its first graphic novel, entitled DMC, this October.

On a Kickstarter page set up by the rapper, DMC described the latest venture, set in the early 1980s, as, “a superhero fighting for justice in an alternate universe. Wild Style-inspired graffiti covers every surface of this world as the true grit of pre-Giuliani New York is captured within the pages of the graphic novel.”

Lest you think this is some vanity project, DMC has enlisted some heavy comic book hitter to helm the first book, including artist Damion Scott (Batman, Batgirl, Spider-Man), and writer Ronald Wimberly, (Prince of Cats on Vertigo/DC).

If all goes well, DMC will be the first in a series of graphic novels and issues.
