Local rock band JJ Grey & Mofro has teamed with Oscar nominee Danny Aiello on a new video for “This River,” the title track from the band’s latest CD.
The video is directed by Brendan “Spookie” Daly, who previously worked with the band on videos for “99 Shades of Crazy,” “Orange Blossoms,” “On Fire” and “The Sweetest Thing” and directed “Brighter Days,” a concert documentary.
In the video, Grey reflects on “this nonsense that I call my life.” Aiello, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work in 1989’s “Do the Right Thing,” plays the same character decades later.
Grey is heading out on tour with a side project, Southern Soul Assembly, in which he teams up with Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars, singer/guitarist Anders Osborne and singer Mark Broussard. Southern Soul Assembly will play at Suwannee Springfest, scheduled for March 20-23 at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak.
