(July 13, 2012, Milwaukee, WI): It’s been almost 10 years since the untimely death of his close friend, music legend Jam Master Jay (JMJ) from Run-DMC, but to Erik “Shake” James it still seems as though it was just yesterday. “A day doesn’t go by that I don’t think about Jay and miss him,” says Shake, “It’s difficult at times but we keep it positive and try to live our lives the way he would have continued to live his- by helping others. With this event I wanted to do something good for my community in Jay’s name. I want to honor his name and continue to keep his memory alive. ”

And with the JMJ Back to School Giveaway, Shake intends to do just that. The community event will take place on Friday, July 20th from 12-4pm at Shake’s barber shop; Three Stripes Barber & Beauty located at 1035 West Hampton in Milwaukee. Some of Jay’s other close friends- including band mate Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Milwaukee native and Atlanta Hawks guard Devin Harris, and NBA All-Star Josh Howard will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures.

Shake will be giving away school supplies that his shop has purchased to kids from the community as well as free Adidas. The Adidas offerings are part of Adidas’ “Show Us How You Represent” marketing campaign. The company was one of the first to sponsor Run-DMC and has continued to support the group and JMJ’s legacy through various campaigns and donations to the JMJ Foundation. Adidas is asking that people attending JMJ Back to School Giveaway (and fans of Jam Master Jay’s from across the world who are not able to attend) take part in the event by tweeting #Represent@adidasorginals.

Jam Master Jay (JMJ), born Jason Mizell, together with Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels helped forever change the world through the music, fashion and culture of Run-DMC. They sold over 20 million albums and were the first group in hip hop to achieve platinum sales status, top the billboard pop charts, have a video on MTV and grace the cover of Rolling Stone, just to name a few. Jam Master Jay was murdered on October 30, 2002 in a Queens, NY. In 2009, he as a member of Run-DMC was posthumously inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

Shake intends to hold this event annually. Anyone looking to help sponsor future events is encouraged to contact him at missujay2@aol.com.
